Description

Drawing inspiration from the functional objects of daily life, Mimi’s artistic forms often embody organic shapes with a sense of volume, influenced by nature and intuition. Clay, her chosen medium, presents a dual challenge: exploring its materiality, including its potential for fragility and functionality. It serves as a conduit for translating her ideas and emotions into tangible forms and surfaces within her artworks. Through this exploration, Mimi aims to push the limits of clay’s materiality, creating pieces that deeply resonate with her artistic vision and personal expression.

About The Artist

Mimi He

Mimi is a Toronto-based ceramic artist who graduated from Sheridan College with a Bachelor of Craft and Design in 2021. Currently, she instructs pottery and consults as a studio technician, while also pursuing her own artistic projects. Her work focuses on the materiality of ceramics, employing traditional hand-building techniques such as coiling and clay pinching to shape her forms. Mimi creates functional sculptures that reflect a blend of technical skill and artistic vision, drawing inspiration from both nature and industrial designs. Drawing inspiration from the functional objects of daily life, my artistic forms often embody organic shapes with a sense of volume, influenced by nature and intuition. Clay, my chosen medium, presents a dual challenge: exploring its materiality, including its potential for fragility and functionality. It serves as a conduit for translating my ideas and emotions into tangible forms and surfaces within my artworks. Through this exploration, I aim to push the limits of clay's materiality, creating pieces that deeply resonate with my artistic vision and personal expression.
