Description

Each artwork of Kerri’s tells a lighthearted story on the importance of environmental stewardship. Reminding us of the natural environment we live in through the imagery that is decorated onto the surface.  She does this by employing the sgraffito technique, “to scratch” in Italian, she lays underglaze/glaze onto the surface and waits until it dries before “scratching” imagery onto the surface using a wire/ribbon tool.  The stoneware clay enhances the look by giving it a patina, like a good pair of worn-in jeans. Both functional and decorative each piece is carefully hand crafted and one-of-a-kind. Please note that each mug may have slight variations in size, shape and design as they are each handcrafted.

Care & Use: All functional pieces are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe (unless otherwise specified).  Handwashing is advised.  Avoid extreme temperature changes, and use on stovetop.  Not intended for roasting.

About The Artist

Kerri Jerome

Kerri Jerome’s work is inspired by nature and the organic properties and materiality of clay. Motivated by a lifetime of environmental activism, she uses sgraffito, painting, and sculpture to express the importance of environmental stewardship. Although she was introduced to clay while working in a wholesale slip-cast studio, Jerome’s love for the medium revealed itself at a young age. As a youth she received a post-secondary diploma in painting and illustration and continued her studies under the tutelage of accomplished potters and artists. Her work has been presented in juried shows and festivals throughout Ontario.
