I am inspired by social change movements. In my objects, you can find text that draws on activism, including “roses while we are living”, popularized by B. Parker as a reminder to cherish and honour trans people in life, or “mi existir es resistir” as a reminder that queer Latinx survival is revolutionary, or Marsha P Johnson’s “first of all I love you, second of all we will win”. Like the political slogan “bread and roses”, my work calls for both sustenance and beauty. – Juana Berinstein
