Zsuzsa Monostory was born and raised in Hungary. She received her diploma in biology at ELTE University in Budapest. She moved to Canada with her family in 1989 and worked at Mount Sinai Hospital Research Institute. However, her passion for ceramics took over and in 1997 became a full time ceramicist.
Zsuzsa is self taught and draws inspiration from architecture, nature and all living things. Her background in biology expresses her environmental issues and concerns. Through the medium of clay, Zsuzsa captures the human form, gesture, nature, and behaviour. She meticulously hand builds each vessel or sculpture and raku fires creating different surface effects.
