Barbara Banfield’s hands-on process has intrigued her. She designed her own successful clothing line for two decades. As a result, her passion for working with her hands has translated to clay. The art and craft of shaping wet clay into beautiful pieces demands the same attention to design, line, colour, surface, and detail as clothing design.
Since graduating from Sheridan College in 2010, Barbara has worked to set up her own studio in Jackson Point, Ontario. Developing a wide variety of functional pots. The majority of her work is porcelain, with sprayed glazes, fired in oxidation to cone 9. On occasion, she fires using wood or gas.
