Join artist Shary Boyle and mechatronic designer Colin Harry for a virtual conversation about the fabrication of the work White Elephant, part of the exhibition Shary Boyle: Outside the Palace of Me.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Colin Harry’s career as a mechatronic designer is the continuation of his life-long passion for building, creating and discovery. With a desire to continually challenge himself both professionally and personally, he has developed a diverse range of technical skills and expertise. He has worked in a variety of areas including rehabilitation research, biotech, aerospace, exhibition development, special effects prop fabrication for film/television, and the visual arts.

Professionally, Colin has integrated his interest in design, engineering, and art by collaborating with internationally renowned Canadian artists such as Max Dean, Lois Andison, and Shary Boyle. He specializes in the design and fabrication of interactive robotic and mechanical artworks.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

A multi-sensory installation, Shary Boyle: Outside the Palace of Me explores how we see ourselves and each other through drawings, ceramic sculpture, life-sized automatons, two-way mirrors, coin-operated sculpture, and an interactive score.

Reimagining the museum as a collective performance space, Canadian visual artist and performer Shary Boyle mines histories of craft and obsolete technologies to connect our current realities to legacies of the past. Reversing the frame on her uncanny characters and their destabilized audience, she urges viewers to think critically about how we create both ourselves and the world we inhabit. Learn more
