Tile Painting: Glaze Craze
February 10, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Beat the grey winter weather by exploring the vibrant colours and patterns on the bowls, plates, and figures found in our first floor Italian Maiolica and Delftware galleries. Maiolica and Delftware are both kinds of tin-glazed earthenware. The makers discovered that if they glazed and fired their earth coloured pieces with tin, the surfaces would turn a brilliant white, allowing them to decorate these objects with bright, colourful patterns. See examples in the galleries before joining us in the Laura Dinner and Richard Rooney Community Clay Studio to make your own bold and colourful designs on white ceramic tiles.
