Sound of Clay: Ocarina Workshops with Jatiwangi art Factory
March 14, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - March 18, 2022 @ 5:00 pm
Recommended for participants age 15+
Jatiwangi art Factory (JaF) is coming to our city as part of the Toronto Biennial of Art! JaF is an Indonesian artistic collective of over fifty multimedia artists, musicians, and curators whose artistic practice emphasizes local rural life in relation to land and the terracotta industry in the Jatiwangi District of Indonesia.
JaF members Muhammad Pipin Kaspin and Tedi Nurmanto are also part of a terracotta ensemble called Lair. Join them to create flutes and percussion instruments out of clay before coming together to create beautiful music. Get ready for an afternoon of experimentation and collaboration.
We welcome participants to sign up for more than one workshop. If you are able to return throughout the week, please be sure to register for multiple dates. This will allow you to experiment, test out your fired instruments, and make the most of your time with JaF.
We encourage participation from people who are actively engaged in local community building and musicians of all levels. Participants should be open to collaboration and experimentation. This workshop will serve as a social gathering space, prioritizing process over product.
