Mariana Bolaños Inclán: As Told by a Hummingbird
May 18 – June 23, 2024
Lobby Gallery. 1st Floor

This exhibition in our lobby gallery features new work by Mariana Bolaños Inclán, recipient of the 2023 Gardiner Museum Prize, awarded to a graduate of the Sheridan College Ceramics Program. The symbol of the hummingbird—a messenger who brings tales from beyond this world—prompts reflection about the beliefs that are passed down through generations. Through her sculptures of kitchen objects blossoming into trees of life, Bolaños Inclán questions ideas about femininity and domesticity inherited through stories, and which she, her mother, and her abuela carry in their daily lives.
