Intro to Sculptural Pottery: Stoneware (All Levels)

For ages 18+
Using stoneware clay, learn hand-building techniques, including pinching, coiling, and slab making. Work at your own pace to build and decorate functional pieces, like bottles, bowls, cups and tiles, as well as small sculptural forms. This class is suitable for all skill levels.
This class includes a 10kg bag of stoneware clay, and access to glazes and underglazes. Additional bags of clay can be purchased for $35 each.
Class dates: January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19, 26
Class Outline:
- Week 1: Introduction and pinch demo
- Week 2: Advanced pinching and intro to coiling
- Week 3: Building with coils
- Week 4: Introduction to slab building
- Week 5: Combining techniques
- Week 6: Studio time and underglaze demo
- Week 7: Studio Time
- Week 8: Glazing

Instructor
Mohammad Tabesh
Mohammad Tabesh is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into the complexities of the human experience, resistance, and social change. Across various mediums, including writing, printmaking, multimedia, and sculpture, Mohammad strives to convey deeply human and universal stories. His work has been recognized with several Canada Council for the Arts grants and an Access Copyright Foundation grant. Mohammad earned his BFA from OCAD University and was honoured as the recipient of the university’s Sculpture and Installation Medal in 2020. In 2022, he was accepted as an Artist-in-Residence for ceramics at Harbourfront Centre.
