The Cup Challenge
May 10, 2020
If you’ve ever visited the Gardiner, you know that we have an amazing selection of ceramic of cups for tea, coffee, chocolate, and more. They’re made of earthenware, stoneware, or porcelain. Click here to see the cups in our collection.
Ceramic cups or mugs are also some of the most popular items produced in our clay studios, but you can still capture the same creativity without the clay!
This week, we’re challenging you to make your own cup using alternative materials that you find around your house like fabric, twigs, cardboard, or paper. When the Museum reopens, you can come recreate your design in clay.
One of our pottery instructors, Ian Symons, shows you how to make a beautiful decorative cup out of paper. Watch the demo and try it yourself. Then take a photo of your work and share it using #GardinerFromHome.
