Featured artist Michel Dumont will lead a tour of his work in the International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF), delving into the stories, inspirations, and techniques used behind his work. The tour will be followed by a creative hands-on mosaic workshop led by the artist. Michel Dumont is represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art in Toronto.
About the Artist
Michel Dumont is a queer, Ojibway and French, Two-Spirit, disabled artist and trauma survivor based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Michel specializes in breathing new life into discarded vintage tile in striking mosaic pieces. He also creates wearable art using packing tape, cellophane, and LED lights, and has additionally explored installation art. As a survivor of intergenerational trauma stemming from Indian Day Schools, Michel’s work often explores emerging themes in anti-colonial, urban, Indigenous, and queer identities.
About the International Ceramic Art Fair
The International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF) returns to the Gardiner Museum from May 23 to June 2, 2024. ICAF is a 10-day celebration of some of the most compelling recent ceramic art, featuring works by emerging and established artists from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as online and in-person programming by artists and curators.
